from 1382 reviewsI've been stuck in a rut. Playing it safe. Second guessing my choices. Signing up for the Playground workshop has got me back on the road to my old playful self. Nature doesn't colour code where seeds may drop or what the bees might do when pollinating flowers and creating new and interesting combinations. And that is how I felt about this workshop. I became curious along the way as to what happens when a one wool is mixed with another (something encouraged in this workshop), what colours pop or recede when placed side by side, the effect of textures on shade and light (and playfulness!), and also what happens when I allowed myself to use little bits of colour I don't normally use on clothing for me. This workshop really lets you play and encourages you to leave the colour combos you're not as happy with - the learning experience is both the journey and the destination.
I have a stash of wool that is left over bits from years of knitting for myself, my children and now their children and friends. I also inherited my late aunts wool scraps. She was still knitting multi coloured blankets for babies in her mid 90s. As an artist she had a wonderful sense of colour and I always marvelled at her combinations. I felt very connected to her as I knitted my scarf. One of my nieces died young and I was fortunate to be given some of the bits she had in her stash - beautiful silk sari yarn, which I incorporated into my scarf. Some colour combinations I used in my children's knitting I recalled and used with much delight. So my scarf is not only colourful and full of texture, it is also a scarf to wrap me up in memories.
The layout of workshop material was this adult learners dream. Broken up into meaningful sections with the right pace, and most of all the encouragement to play with few rules.
And a side effect has been a digital media detox, that is so far enduring!
I'm looking forward to playing and learning more.
Thank you Aluma for your passion and sharing.

Love the way this course is taught. I knew a few basics before I started but This gave me so much more confidence. The videos are super helpful, but I did end up using the written pattern. Would love more advice on yarn selection. I still panic a bit when choosing the next yarn, and often second guess.

I made 3 scarfes with a lot of fun!

I have taken many of Aluma’s courses. The playground was another fabulous course. Aluma is a great teacher, Aluma makes it easy to understand. I learnt a new skill, double knitting. Something for everyone. Thank you Aluma

Aluma has help me shift my crocheting from enjoyable to creative! She presents a class on creative crochet from color choices, yarn selection and tools. I have loved this class! Never thought I would be able to be this loose both in my work and with me! Yikes! Thank you, Aluma

This course has been very helpful. I'm not quite done with it yet. Thank you so much!

Oh my gosh, I have had so much fun making this scarf!! Like, everything melts away in life & it's just me going wild with my crochet hook! Thank you Aluma, for bringing out the creative dreamer in me again. I feel alive and super excited to keep creating. Keep the classes coming Aluma, they're a blast!

The course beginners traject was very helpful. The explanation was clear. The video showed how to do it in a way it was easy to follow and so was your text.

This workshop provides step-by-step video lessons and written pattern. I found it very helpful personally for having the option of referring to the video lesson. The video lesson techniques where very easy to follow and you can watch the lesson many times as needed. I was extremely happy with the final result of my completed colorful Free Spirit Scarf!

It's very easy to follow the instructions. Very clear. After the first one , I already start with personal touch as changing sizes of petals.
The color part is fun also: choosing arranging the colors and sizes.
As soon as you are done you want to start a new one.
Thanks Aluma
