  • DK weight works best — a little thinner or a little heavier is great too
  • Use a mixture of yarns rather than one. Different fibres, textures and colours all welcome, and there's no limit on how many you bring in

For Both: Basic crochet knowledge, scissors, a darning needle.

I already have the FreeSpirit Shawl Workshop. Is the Holiday Shawl different?

Yes. Two completely different designs, two different courses, and different things to learn in each.

FreeSpirit is a handful of lessons: a simple granny-style triangle with a creative twist, and a great introduction to creative crochet and the way I like to teach it.

The Holiday Shawl is a different kind of piece. The design is much more intentional and sophisticated. It's a fashion piece that sits on the body like a high-end garment: it stays in place, drapes over the front, and has shaping and style, rather than being a triangle of fabric.

And it's a full course, with multiple lessons on mixing yarns and adding details, and three step-by-step follow-alongs, each using yarn in a different way. What you take with you is the confidence to pick up any pattern you love and use it as a blank canvas for mixing yarns and expressing your own style.

If FreeSpirit showed you that mixing yarns is fun, the Holiday Shawl takes it a lot further.

No need to worry! Freestyle crochet is all about embracing imperfection and letting your imagination take the lead. I’ll guide you every step of the way, so you’ll feel supported and inspired—even if you’ve never strayed from a pattern before.

My courses are designed to be approachable, fun, and freeing. You’ll be amazed at what you can create when you let go of the pressure to be “perfect.”

What skill level do I need?

If you can do the basic stitches, you can follow this course — every step is taught on video you can pause, slow down and rewatch, and my students range from near-beginners to women who've crocheted for decades.

Do I need to know how to read a crochet pattern?

No. Every row is taught on video, so you can follow along without reading a single line of pattern. There's a written PDF in the course too, in US and UK terms, for anyone who likes to work from one. It's there if you want it, not because you need it.

How long do I have access to my courses?

Once you purchase the course, it yours to keep. There is no time limit.

I'm left-handed. Can I follow the videos?

Yes! The course includes both right and left hand videos for all the step by step lessons.
